Shinshan – Winner of Red Bull Dance Your Style World Finals 2019
In the very first season of the show in 2019, the finalist and ultimate champion of the competition was a dancer named Shinshan, who was only 17 years old at the time.
He’s the very first world champion of the competition after facing down Angyil in the extremely electric World’s Final hosted in Paris that year.
How Shinshan Won The Battle
In the final battle, Shinshan, on the blue side, faced off against Angyil, on the red side. The two had come a long way and beat some of the world’s best dancers to reach the final.
In the battle, Angyil delivered an impressive performance with precise interpretations of popular tracks such as “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO, “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Gala’s “Freed from Desire”.
Meanwhile, Shinshan – with his acrobatics and energetic dance moves – kept the match alive and captivated the crowd, and finally won over the crowd.
Shinshan Before the Red Bull Competition
Off the stage, Shinshan is known by his real name Jean Salazar Tavera, a Dutch B-Boy.
At 17 years old, he admitted to experiencing occasional doubts about his path, making this achievement a dream come true and a strong validation of his talent.
Shinshan’s dance style, which he calls the Cuban Snake, reflects his Cuban heritage and showcases his flexibility and rhythmic abilities.
Influenced by his early training in capoeira, which he began practicing at three, Shinshan incorporated many dynamic and difficult moves like the inverted cartwheels into his routines. The same routines eventually won him the cup.
Apart from dance, Shinshan is a passionate music fan with an eclectic taste. His favorite artist is Miles Davis, and he appreciates music from various genres.
With a desire to be a game-changer himself, Shinshan aspires to bring about change and innovation to the professional dance scene.
And with the win at Red Bull Dance Your Style, he sure did!

THE D SoraKi – Winner of Red Bull Dance Your Style World Finals 2022
The Red Bull Dance Your Style competition was postponed in 2020, then once again in 2021. The show only picked up again in 2022 and recorded another world championship.
That’s THE D SoraKi after he competed and emerged victorious against King DaVinci, a dancer from Nigeria, in a live competition at the Montecasino in Johannesburg, South Africa.
How THE D Soraki Won The Battle
The final contest was split into four sections, each matching four different songs: Sean Paul’s “Temperature”, Masked Wolf’s “Astronaut in the Ocean”, Master KG’s “Jerusalema”, and last Junior Senior’s “Move Your Feet.”
The competition was an extremely close one, filled to the brim with electric moves and show-stopping dynamism. At one point, King DaVinci even took one of his shoes off and flung it across the stage!
However, while both were brilliant dancers, there can only be one claimant to the world’s champion title.
And after a while of deliberation, it was THE D SoraKi who walked off stage with the cup in his hand for his lava-like moves and brilliant execution.
THE D Soraki Before The Red Bull Competition

Red Bull Dance Your Style Rules
With millions of viewers around the world and thousands of interested attendees and fans, you bet that there are a lot of rules around to ensure that only the best dancers get to participate in later rounds.
To be eligible to participate, dancers must be aged 16 or older and have completed the registration requirements. Any younger participants (minors) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Dancers who throw their names into the ring are required to complete two qualifying events: Studio Auditions and Regional Qualifier Events.
Studio Auditions are open to all eligible participants, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Once they pass the auditions, they’ll proceed to the Regional Qualifiers.
These events are televised and are hosted on a number of days in different cities around the country.
At each event, the dancers are judged by panels who carefully evaluate their performances based on criteria such as rhythm, musicality, movement, technicality, and creativity.
Winners from Regional Qualifiers advance to the National Pre-Finals. The top dancers from the National Pre-Finals proceed to the National Finals, where a judging panel selects the winners.
But that’s not the end of the line.
Talented dancers who win the National Finals get the chance to participate in the World Finals in Germany with travel, accommodations, and food provided.
FAQs
1. Is Red Bull Dance Your Style Choreographed?
The thing about the Red Bull Dance Your Style competition is that it is a pure freestyle event.
Dancers don’t know about the music, nor are they allowed to practice choreography beforehand.
They’ll have to totally vibe the music and interpret it accordingly with all the technical moves that they know.
It adds a dimension of soulfulness to the entire competition that puts it a touch above the rest of the dance competitions out there.
2. How Much Is Red Bull Dance Your Style Prize Money?
For all competitions up to the National Finals, there is no prize money.
Instead, the prize is a trip (which includes airfare, accommodation, and food) to the nearest city where the next leg of the competition is hosted.
On the official Red Bull page, all of these are converted into money. The final “prize” for the first-place winner at the National Finals is about $4,500.
In 2022, the winner of the World Final (THE D SoraKi) wins two tickets to the Red Bull Dance Your Style competition in the 2023 season hosted in Germany, as well as a Maurice LaCroix AIKON #Tide watch worth around $1,000.
